Benjamin Hemmenway Monument A little ways along White Oak Avenue, you will see the Benjamin Hemmenway monument on your right. This is a tall columnar monument showing a lyre on the front, encircled by a wreath of laurel. Notice the broken string in the lyre—a clue that a life has ended, and another popular Victorian cemetery motif. Mr. Hemmenway was a coppersmith in Boston. Go to next stop: Hannah Lovering Monument. |
